Archer

Cyrus D. Chapman, a homesteader, furnished the spark that formed the town of Archer, but because there was already a town in Merrick County by the name of Chapman, it was decided to call it Archer after a railroad man prominent at that time. On May 25, 1887, the Lincoln Land Company, cooperating with the Burlington Railroad, purchased from E.H. Whickman and Mary Chapman the land now occupied by the Village of Archer. Archer's population of that time was around 125.
